    [main_text] => Remember to bring a passport photo for certification purposes.

On a successful completion of the course and candidates forget to bring a passport size photo - unfortunately we are unable to issue a certificate.  Candidates will have to forward a photo to us and we have to post the certificate as 'Royal Mail Signed For', there is currently a charge of £7.50 to post certificates.

Also, remember to bring drinks for the two days along with a lunch for the first day, there will be an opportunity to get a meal and drinks on day two (Expedition day) at a marina restaurant.


Please bring suitable warm clothing to wear (under our free to use Musto GORE-TEX MPX waterproofs) also a hat, gloves, sun screen, and wellies / shoes - that may get wet, all appropriate for the time of year.

Course Details****RYA Powerboat Level 2 courses are taught on a 3:1 basis, that means 3 participants and 1 Instructor. 

At the bottom of this page is a Book and Pay facility, when you use it you will receive a receipt and course booking confirmation, all by email - 24/7

Course Information
****By the end of the Tec Rec Coaching two day RYA Powerboat Level 2 course in Southampton you should be capable of handling small powerboats safely and in a seamanlike way.

The course is 100% training with any assessment built in, which gives plenty of time for practising manoeuvres and correcting faults.

This course subsumes within it the 1 day RYA Powerboat Level 1 course - so a direct entry onto the Level 2 course, without attending the RYA Powerboat Level 1 course, is acceptable.

On the second day of each Tec Rec Coaching RYA Powerboat Level 2 Coastal course there will be a Navigation Trip from our base on the River Itchen to a Marina on the River Hamble where we use the VHF SRC Radio to arrange a berth to go ashore for lunch, the Passage Plan being put together by yourselves.

            [content_data] => Course Programme****You will learn about pre - launch briefing and checks, how to launch and recover from a road trailer, planing skills and manoeuvres, seamanship skills - coming along side a pontoon, man-overboard recovery, anchoring, Rules of the Road, basics of GPS and more.

Shore-based sessions will include instruction in practical use of charts, fixed and hand held compasses, tide / weather interpretation. 

The Southampton tidal waters are ideal for developing RYA Powerboat Level 2 skills and with a variety of moorings and marinas nearby there are plenty of opportunities to work on close quarter boat handling skills.

The P/Boat L2 Certificate is what you need for the 

ICC (International Certificate of Competence)

For driving Powerboats in certain Countries abroad the RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate is used as proof of competence when applying for the International Certificate of Competence.  ( ICC - conditions apply )  On completion of the P/Boat L2 course you can complete the ICC application form which is available on the RYA website, attach a passport photo and the Royal Yachting Association will forward the completed ICC.  (Conditions apply).  The RYA currently charge a fee for the issue of an ICC.  If you are an RYA Member it is free.  Minimum age is 16.
