    ****Day 2.  A 6 seat Ribquest RIB featuring Shock mitigation seats for the Instructor and all the course participants, Garmin 12 inch and 9 inch  Touchscreen Chartlotters, Garmin Fantom Radar, Twin Suzuki 140 hp engines with Power Steering. Just what we need for the navigation expedition day!

    We will develop your basic driving skills in more complex situations including an introduction to rough water boat handling - weather/tides permiting,

    You’ll be introduced to basic navigation, passage planning and pilotage, as well as planning a day trip.  Sessions will also be run on the use of compasses, Chartplotter work and VHF / SRC radio, personal safety and dealing with emergency situations such as engine failure, fire, and man overboard.

    Learn about SOG, COG, BTW DTW, XTE and more.

    Day 1.

    Sessions in the Powerboat on the water to review/improve your boat handling skills.

    Sessions in our Nav Room to look at Chartwork, Passage Planning, and Pilotage which covers Latitude and Longitude, the principles of GPS and Chart Plotters, Tidal Heights and Secondary Ports, Plotting Instruments and Course to Steer (CTS)

    Also covering:- Tidal Heights, Standard Ports using a Tidal Curve, True and Magnetic Bearings, Tidal Diamonds and Tidal Streams, Buoyage, IRPCS, Distress, sources of Weather Forecasts, Bearing/Distance and more.

    Produce a Passage Plan and put it into practice on the water.  We show you how to work out if and when you can go over the Green Bits on the chart!

    We depart for a day of Navigation and Boat Handling practice.

    The aim of the practical sessions on the water is to put into practice the theory detailed above and to complete a passage which includes developing skills in:-

    Boat Preparation, clothing and equipment.
    Boat Handling, waves, awareness of conditions, awareness of others, boat control, wind and tide, mooring up, use of kill cords, pilotage, passage planning use of traditional navigation and electronic navigation, man overboard procedures.
